Codemasters(of Collin McRae fame) and Player X sent us a game for a quick preview. It’s name? Emergency Mayhem.
The synopsis says something like: “It is a fun game that resembles Crazy Taxi or GTA for the good guys.” Hmm, to be honest, you drive like in GTA, fast like in Crazy Taxi but the game it resembles the most in my opinion is Digital Chocolate’s Tornado Mania we’ve always planned to review but always forgot to :). Why is that? Because all the problems and emergencies featured in the game are extremely fun. Speaking for myself, I’ve had enough news with the end of the world because of the global warming, cancer or world wars; therefore, any actually fun game gets a big plus from me.
First impression: it’s a really well made game. No FPS problems, good controls. I’m not saying that because of my job, but because there are not many games that run flawlessly on the mobile devices.
The story starts in an exciting way: make $5000 in a couple of missions, a series of game-within-game. You drive cars to targets, around a(luckily) not so large city. Until the day is over I made almost $ 15000. With the help of the police I had to stop the cars from running over penguins (yes, funny indeed), with the firefighters - stop fires, naturally, and with the nurse I had to give first help to poisoned people. Good. Do that several times and you’ll eventually lose interest.
If you’re be around, second day arrives. Make more money, but with more emergencies, some new minigames - all stages are based mostly on your reflexes so that’s why I mentioned the game is well made - a low key response would have ruined the game - try to run with the firefighter truck through traffic with at least 3 emergencies on your head and with some blocked roads as a small surprise. Here and in latter stages the map cannot be ignored.
A bit of fresh air in the industry. Not exactly Tornado Mania, but close enough. Eight and a half out of ten. If you like Tornado Mania make it a nine ;). Totally recommended.
