Yeah, I am surely nostalgic. I play Settlers 2, Transport Tycoon and Cannon fodder 1&2 from time to time. I think no one should have missed those games, they are wonderful and will remain the same - at least for me:).
Darkest fear is an ancient game for mobiles - 2005 - from an unknown US mobile developer - do they still exist? But like in the video games industry sometimes small companies make great and surprising games, looks like it happens - and more often - in the mobile industry. I’ve wrote about other old games and I thought “man, I don’t even know if i could afford a decent 176/220 screen for my phone”, or at least for a decent price. Well, that’s other matter.
After launching the game the logo and the excellent soundtrack - by the way, you must play this game with sounds, and at night with lights off eventually, it will give you a great feeling - I was still a bit skeptical. Horror game on mobile? But playing I started to like it. A lot. Basically the game is a puzzle. You are in a hospital and you have to find your daughter and your wife. But the good part is the story unfolds whit simple yet good in-game cinematics, adding more to the mystery of the whole situation.
I said this is a puzzle. You cannot step in the dark, because if you do you’ll loose health. Fast. You are allowed mistakes, but not many. At first trial and error will work fine, but in latter stages you won’t survive enough to advance, so you’ll have to plan every move carefully. How to get rid of the dark? Using flashlights, mirrors and lamps, opening windows. But you may use only one at the time, and you must place them on switches to open doors. More, except for the lamp the light sources will light in one direction and you cannot advance through the stage without finding a new way to fight with the dark.
There are also few quest elements (keys, NPC’s), and bonus objectives such as saving some patients you find (you do that making sure they are in a spot of light when you finish the stage. There are also 3 end possibilities, 3 bosses, Creating an excellent mix. I like this game a lot, 9 out of 10. Great!
