Some of you must have heard at least of the of the game’s PC version. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll sum it up by sayinf the PC version of America’s Army is a free multiplayer shooter ordered by the US Army, as one of their marketing strategies of increasing the draft rates and patriotic feelings among the youngsters (yes, I thought it was a joke at first but it’s true).
I must admit I haven’t played the PC version, mostly because I lack the time and don’t like Counter Strike (or Starcraft, as a matter of fact ). So let’s forget about the PC version and talk about the mobile one: Gameloft does a great job with this game and the only fault one could find is that the game is too short. It isn’t, really: you just won’t realize how fast the hours of play have passed, as this game really gives the term “action packed” a new meaning.
You have three games in one. Usually this is not a good thing because one of the games is neglected, but this is not the case. You play with a chopper – good old arcade, it reminds me of a classic arcade I used to play as a kid. Then we have the usual infantry soldier – different weapons, grenades, and as a bonus, a sniper rifle (thumbs up for its good implementation). Third mode – the same trooper in an armored car using the mounted machine gun; hence, no chance to the enemy – just keep your finger on fire button – what a rewarding feeling that is..
But what makes it a good game are the levels, very different, each with a different mission – the escort mission with the chopper for example is a good example. Off course, there are bosses at the end – just try to beat the last one – you have to put your mind at work with strategy and tactics, ’cause simple “fire at will” won’t cut it.
All these being said, I don’t really know how much the US army has gained in popularity with this game. But I can tell you that this is a very good action game I totally recommend.
