Tower Bloxx - Digital Chocolate
Like in every great love story, let me start with the foreplay.
My Sony Ericsson cell phone came branded by Vodafone (yes, I’m an European). As such, it had pre-installed several demo games. Digital Chocolate’s Tower Bloxx was one of them.
I twiddled the demo version for a brief while, found it interesting but not exciting and left it alone. Lately, though, I became more and more annoyed by the numerous demo games on my phone and the fact I wasn’t able to remove them (the phone is branded by Vodafone, remember?). So I decided to just buy the damn games from the Vodafone portal hoping the full version will replace the demo version. It didn’t. Still, this gave me the opportunity to bask in the glory of Tower Bloxx, the full version game.
Needless to say, I fell in love with it.
Digital Chocolate are famous for the innovative mobile gaming concepts. Tower Bloxx makes no exception to the recipe: great graphics, simple and addictive gameplay, an original idea and pretty decent sound.
The game itself is built around a simple idea: you build towers by clicking 5/fire when you want to drop a block (a floor) from the crane over the ones below it. The game gets more and more difficult as you go up, since the crane oscillates and the tower as well, so it all becomes basically a game of reflexes. It’s quite Zen if you think of it: a very simple action that must be made as perfectly as you are able to: finding the right moment to release the crane gives you an unprecedented feeling of completion.
But enough with this Zen mumbo-jumbo and let’s get into specifics: at first you can only build blue towers (of maximum 10 floors height). Each block you drop must fall over the one below, or you lose a life. Even more, it’s like in the mechanics problems: if more than half of your block isn’t matched over the previous, it might collapse. You earn points proportionately with the precision of your drop. Perfect drops will start a combo: the following drops will get bonus points. In order to earn maximum scores, you’ll therefore need to make as many perfect drops as possible, one after the other. An ugly drop will add more momentum to the tower(which makes your task more difficult), while a perfect drop will decrease the momentum and make your tower more stable. As you progress in the game, you’ll get access to new towers, of 20, 30 or 40 blocks height, which only make your task more difficult.
The game has two parts, as I said(a recipe dear to Digital Chocolate games): the construction part(the one I just described to you) and the city building strategy part. Yes, the goal of the game is to fill a 5×5 squares grid with blocks, in a Sim City-like manner; you get to grow your small village to a full-blown metropolis, abiding by the urbanism rules: red towers must have at least a blue neighbor tower, green towers(30 floors height) must have at least one red and one blue neighbor, while the yellow towers(40 floors) must have a green, red and blue tower neighbors. This all starts to become a strategy game, especially once you get informed by the game creators that you should aim towards the perfect score of 19000 citizens(meaning perfect layout of the blocks, towers and the like).
All in all, I’m not sure I succeeded in properly describe to you the excitement I got from trying to get a highscore. I can only say to you that, after my initial city got 6000 habitants, I’ve been struggling daily to reach as higher score as possible. My personal record in Tower Bloxx is 13500, but this can obviously be improved. All it takes is a bit of Zen attitude, stubbornness and gaming maniac obsession. But I’ll get closer, I promise.
Tower Bloxx is a great game: easy to learn, hard to master. You need perfect reflexes, great strategic thinking and a lot of patience. And the graphics are not bad, either

This game is one of the most addictive games i’ve ever played. In spite of its simplicity, it’s really a fun game to play.
The game is really very easy to pick up. Me and my girlfriend are constantly comparing our high scores to see who is the best among us.

omg…agree with all of you.but up to know i haven’t played very much and my record is only 9000+
but ill play more untill i reach the 20,000!!!
I played non stop for about 3 days, and I got the following scores:
Build City High Score: 19098
Quick Game High Score: 8847
The Build City mode is very hard. The producers put the 19000 target ridiculously high, but after many struggling attempts, I managed to reach it. There is a tad trick to getting more yellow towers (luxury ones) on the game board in order to get more people. For all those who think they’ll be a suprise for reaching the 19000 mark - well there isn’t! I was shocked too!
In Quick Game mode, the hughest I’ve managed to reach is 193 and that gets you upto Jupiter.

Can I ask you what’s the your secret to having more yellow towers on the set?
yayy.. after writing the thing above yesterday, i had another go at qucikgame, and i managed to get upto Jupiter at 223 blocks! I was soooo excited. But when you go on the tower blocks webstie and look at the photo of the blocks, the maximum seems to be 240 and Jupitier appears at 140 i think. So i’m a little confused about that.
Well as you may have guessed, i’ve stopped playing the build city mode, as theres nothing which happens after that. Its kind of pointless- you get sooo excited that you almost reach the 19000 mark, and nothing happens. All that appears is, you are now a capital or i can’t remember what it says, but its one of those comment things.
With the build city mode, i first dotted blue in all four corners. and then green and so on… but i created a city of symmetry-if that makes any sense. It was all a mirror reflectoion (right side was exaclty the same as left side and up and down). But once i did that, I noticed that due to the positions of my towers, I could actualy place a YELLOW tower in place of the green tower for example. Obviously this is a good thing cause a yellow tower has more floors - therefore more people. So i went ahead and did that. And so forth.

This is what my current city is, with 19039 as population and besides that it reads 20/20.
I can’t remember how it acutally worked though, and i couldn’t make sense of it either, but this is how i remember starting off:

It was something like that anyway. * = things i can’tremember. But you notice that I only have like 4 yellow towers. And to get 19000 from that is impossible. I thought it was impossible! But i carried on building and replaced some excelent green towers with blue ones. And when i did that, it let me build yellow ones ontop afterwards, due to the orientation. Somehow, it worked. But one thing i noticed was when you mess up the orientation, you can’t touch some of the towers, cause it doesn’t follow the rule of R being next to B, G next to RB etc. So it was difficult like that. But its crap cause theres nothing you get afterwards. Remember too, to always try getting the trophy towers. Only 3 of my towers aren’t trophy towered.
Has anyone played quick game though. Whats the highest anyones got for that? Whats after jupiter cause its red skies at this stage.

I didn’t start building yellow towers untill all the others were excelent towers. It’s a bit of a puzzle but i managed to get i high score of: 24876
There are more ways (like the one nyn used) to gain a high score but as far as i know this is the one with the most yellow towers, thus the highest score..
my quick game highscore is 6398 with 157 blox..

i just got a new personal record of 16635
about the 260th block you’ll see a flying whale. i managed to build up to 283 blocks.
I think I have the best city…wasnt very difficult to dicover that you only have to have the yellow tower surrounded by the otherones the moment you build it, after that you can demolish them, so i made a system and i folowed it through all the slots and i got to this

It’s not optimum, but with 13 Yellow, 12 of whom can be rebuilt at any time, I find it’s very good. I use this mainly because I get the most benefit from refining my Yellow buildings, not my lower value ones.
Build up high-value Green and Red ones first, as you won’t be able to rebuild these later without demolishing Yellows.
My best value blue building is 213, by the way. Build it so it looks like this:

Then knock it down and rebuild it. I reckon 215 is probably the perfect score for a blue… but I’m not a patient man.
What are the high scores you can get for red (670) and green (914) buildings? My scores are OK, but I could do a lot better, I’m sure.

What is the highest score recorded for the demo version? I believe my recent score of 5181 will be pretty difficult to beat - you must end the game before the “Buy/Quit” screen pops up (which nulls out your score… it won’t get recorded in the “High Scores” section).
I just have to say that it is possible to get to 19000+ with only 4 yellow houses, as long as you get a couple yellows with 2000+ populations. Which I admit was a fluke…:)

My highest combo record was 17 for the longest time but then I recorded a 19 and later followed that up with a combo of 21 when I got the 5181 score in the Quick Game demo (I’m tellin’ ya… that’s about impossible to beat and wouldn’t mind someone testing to see if I’m right).

And I bulit a city with more than 17000 inhabitans^^
But if i have a new record in the quick game, under high scores stands my new record twice?! On the 1st & 2nd places stands always the same.

same as mynameisnotbob for the same reasons. score is on 29415. Milk bottles, king of the towers. thats impressive. think i’m going to have a crack at that formation now and i’m also going to have to have a go at the quick game. didnt realise you could get them so big.
i like to play quick game alot, mainly bcoz i wanted to see this flying whale … ive seen it it came at 328 for me and i made it up to 383 still havnt broke 400.
After a LOT of playing and training i have reached a high score of 53058 in quick game … In a few days i will upload a video on youtube of me reaching this high score.

to finish the build city you need to change and change buildings.once you managed to get the most yellow towers that you can, you simply have to improve them.
I’m not that addictive of quick game as much as I am of build city. I have probably got the highest score ever in Build City - 33006, anybody beat that?
What a gem! Why has it taken me so long to find this game? A fantastic game with two very unique elements - an arcade game with a logic puzzle game. I think the optimum numbers are 12xY, 8xG, 4xR and 1xB? I’m still not as good at the arcarde mode as some people on here but my total score is 25,313. Haven’t really played the Quick game much but will give that a good crack as well. Man, what a great game. And free too!

Not sure if its just a trial version or not as mine came free with my Nokia phone. However, even if it is a trial I’d definitely recommend purchasing the game (as long as it isn’t more than about £5).

I would like to know, what is the optimal distribution of towers? I got 13xY, 6xG, 4xR and 2xB - I guess, this has slightly more potential than 12xY, 8xG, 4xR and 1xB. Is there a better distribution? since this is only my fourth try and I did not reach more than 1900 yet with a single yellow tower I only managed to score a total of ittle more than 31000.
i like this game alot - my city high score is 20,091 but its not fully finished, i can only get to 139 blox on quick game, i want to get up to the wale!!
My city best is 36444, with indeed 12 yellow towers.
It is possible to have 13 yellow tower in your city, but you end up with too many blue towers as well.

Yellow 2376 (but I see people have gotten more than me)

Blue 217
Highest combo is 22, and I indeed think that that can’t be beaten, because the combo bar drops so rapidly.
