Multiplayer Championship Poker Texas Holdem – Real Dice

With all the rave about internet massive multiplayer games(World of Warcraft being probably the best-known example), it’s no wonder that people started getting interested in massive multiplayer mobile games as well.

Meet Real Dice, one of the first mobile gaming startups targeting the massive multiplayer community, with the creation of Real Dice World, a subscriber-based community giving access to multiplayer games against gamers around the world.

The games are classic board ones: Poker, Sudoku, Majhong, Backgammon, Chess, Dominoes, available for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones, Palm or Blackberries.

Mobicritic will be introducing you to all of them, in turns. For today, we start with the most addictive multiplayer game around: Poker(sure it’s addictive, just ask Vegas Poker Addicts Anonymous :) ). In our case, Real Dice’s Multiplayer Championship Poker Texas Holdem.
From the product presentation:

Play mobile Texas Hold’em the way it was meant to be: online against thousands of real players from around the world. Full tables 24/7, ring games, tournaments and multi-table events. Multiplayer Championship Poker is in a league of its own.

Real Dice Multiplayer Poker Texas Holdem was awarded by Handango as Game of the Year (2006) and by Pocket PC & Smartphone Magazine’s Poker Game of the Year in both 2005 and 2006. It’s no wonder, since it’s beautifully made, with:
• Online Ring games, Sit’n'Go tournaments and Multi-table events
• Spectacular graphics and authentic ten player tables
• Simple, intuitive interface
• Single player quick games and campaign mode with 200 AI opponents
• Live chat and serious competition
• Hall of Fame with updated info on the best online players
• Included a free Windows PC version

Download mode: over-the-air or over-the-cable.
System requirement for Real Dice Multiplayer Championship Poker:
• Windows Mobile (PPC and Smartphones): Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 5.0
• Palm: Palm OS 5.0 and above

Community Feature:
Real Dice Network community is a unique concept that allows members to make new friends online. While playing or simply by sending an email within Real Dice Network, customers can create their own virtual community and organize private tournament with their buddies.

Mobicritic’s opinions:

The game is beautifully implemented, that’s certain. All the multiplayer features that you could ask for are there: chat, buddy list, private games, etc.
The only downside we have is, for Texas Holdem like for the rest of Real Dice products, the lack of availability for the average Java enabled cell phone. But, given that to truly enjoy the graphics you need a larger screen than the average cell phone, PDA seems to be a pretty good niche after all. Besides, the Real Dice guys have just finished developing Symbian versions of their games, so the target niche is growing as we speak.

The other downside? The price: after all, coming from the mobile java games world, where the average game costs around 3$, any 20$ game seems huge.; also to be added is the 8$ monthly subscription. But, given that PDA games usually cost between 10$ and 20$, and the added community benefits, it doesn’t seem that expensive anymore. Which is what makes the special offer Real Dice gives our readers so great: you can just go ahead for a full trial, pick and then stick with whatever game and service suits you best.
