Collin McRae Rally 2005
Warning! This game is not new, it’s not even great, but from time to time we like playing it and maybe you will too.
If the title of this game got your attention then my brief review won’t give away too many surprises. After all, the PC, Playstation and XBox games from the series have been vastly popular and you might already know what to expect. If not, all I can say is that there will.
For those of you who don’t know much about WRC(World Rally Championship), then the least you should know is that Collin McRae is a Scotsman who also happens to be the youngest world rally champion. But since he seems to have given up WRC in favor of Paris Dakar Rally, I guess the glory days of McRae WRC rally games on the PC or consoles is about finished. Or else, who knows, maybe we’ll get to see Dakar McRae games in the near future.
But let’s go back to our game, shall we? The game is an oldie (launched in 2005), but still enjoyable by the occasional gamer. The menu is similar to the one from the PC version and adds up a lot to the atmosphere. The graphics are pretty good given the age, the soundtrack is really cool - only on the menu screens: just like its PC daddy there is no music during gameplay. There’s also no digitized voice, only the sound of the crashing car. This way you can say “Ouch, that hurt!” :).
It’s a good game, overall. The feeling that you’re fighting the seconds and every mistake counts is there. Also, the different terrains have different grips - and you can really “feel” this in terms of gameplay. Overall I would give it 8 out of 10 - and that’s because I love car games and the PC version is one of my favorite car games - I can say that I’m a fan.
