Top 5 mobile games to play on a desert island (or a really long business trip)
Top 5 Long-Playing Mobile Games
Imagine some weird deity that takes you hostage on a desert island, for eternity. He/She gives you food, water, electricity, and five games of your choice to play on your mobile Java phone. Or, in case this kind of scenario is too absurd for your, just pick 5 games of your choice to play during your 10-days Bahamas holiday and the long trip by plane to it. Would you pick adventure games? What about puzzles? Or perhaps arcades? You’ve got it: my point here is: what would the 5 mobile java games be to give you maximum fun, maximum time of gameplay and the least boredom?
Although my first choice would be something along the lines of Diamond Rush and Absolute Puzzle - people’s favorites so far here, at MobiCritic, I’d probably end playing them very quickly; after all, exciting as they can be, neither gives you more than 2 full days of gameplay. Ok, let’s make it 3 days, with replaying at higher difficulty levels and all. Still, not even close to the long-term gameplay we’ve been talking about. IMHO I’d go with the puzzles and block-colored games. After all, where there’s no plot there’s no definite gameplay, is it? So, here they are: Mobicritic’s 5 games to take on very long and boring vacations; games that always have their place on my phone
- Tetris - yep, call me crazy, but I’ve played Tetris for thousands and thousands of hours and still enjoy it from time to time. It’s a classic, just like pong or Arkanoid/BlockBreaker. Which brings me to number 2…
- Block Breaker a pretty nice implementation of the classic concept. There are some hints of a plot around, but all in all it’s a classic ball/paddle and bricks game.

- Ancient Empires 2 - I know, I said no action/adventure games - but, still, Ancient Empires 2 is a great game, and if you get to finish the campaign mode you still can get some good hours of
turn-based strategy, thanks to the quick play mode - Naval Battle - An immortal classic as well, but in a new, hip and extremely exciting life thanks to Gameloft’s implementation. Read more about it here.
- M-Sudoku - free as in beer and speech, a great implementation of the extremely popular logic game. Infinite gameplay hours because of the zillions possible configurations.
Almost made the list, therefore candidates for a “top 10″ long-gameplay games:
Medieval Combat - beat-em-up game with a very alert rhythm - excellently implemented, given the platform’s limitations
Asphalt Urban 3 - because everyone likes to play a car-chasing game once in a while
Paris Hilton’s Diamond Quest - a pretty well implemented Bejeweled clone
AstroPop - an innovative concept, graphically similar to Block Breaker, but with a rather unique concept, a cross of Tetris with Bejeweled(review soon to come)
Lumines Mobile - block-falling action, exciting and alert; sometimes a bit too alert, as you’ll end up with hurting thumbs and damaged cellphone keyboard

We bring you reviews of the best games and software for your mobile device: java games for your phone or games for your PSP.
So basically it’s a top 10, right ?
Anyways, there are plenty of better games around: Might and Magic, Rainbow Six, etc…

Sorry for the inconvenience of not having(yet) set up the wp-cache wordpress plugin.
We promise it’ll be done for the next digg frontpage entries
[...] Yesterday my dream came true. One passionate reader bookmarked us, and hundreds of others loved us. One of Mobicritic’s latest articles, the one about the top 5 games that you could play over and over again got BIG and made the first page of Digg. [...]
You didnĀ“t mention Simbabe…
[...] If you find yourself on a desert island somewhere and all you’ve got is your cell phone, you’re gonna want to make sure you’ve got quality games to pass the years until you’re rescued (here’s hoping your battery holds out)… and The Mobile Critic may have the answer for you in their “Top 5 Long-Playing Mobile Games” article. The top five list has a few classics and a few new names: Tetris, Block Breaker, Ancient Empires 2, Naval Battle and M-Sudoku make up the winners, and each entry enjoys a nice writeup about why it made the cut. Not enough for you? Mobile Critic included a second 5 “runners up” because it’s so hard to leave it at just 5. Check out the article to get all the info you need for the next time you’re stranded for 6 hours at Heathrow (which some argue is worse than a desert island). [...]
Thank You
ok…my top 10 must be…considering the ones I may function on my mobile (nokia 5300 music edition)…
1st - Age of Empires III mobile (not like the previous crap games with no good control and nasty grafics)
2nd - Real Football 2007 3D (the PES of mobile phones with awsome 3D grafics)
3th - Starcraft Ghost (even though not being able to save game due to the game never have been released in the final version…the only reason it’s not in first place)
4th - resident evil missions (long time playing and very similar to resident evil: nemesis for other platforms)
5th - FMX III: Hardcore (great controls, great playing in incredible 3d reality chalenging motocross abilities game…hours and hours of playing)
6th - WRC: Fia World Championship (best rally game for mobiles until now)
7th - Warcraft 3 (would be in a higher place if i could get an english or portuguese version of the game…i only got the russian version…don’t get a thing…)
8th - Need for Speed: Carbon 3D version (great racing game whatsoever)
9th - CM 2007 (almost all the full functions of the PC version, great adaption of the game)
10th - God of War: Betrayal (the game itself is a litle bit short but as soon as you finish, if you play that at the end) you got another big chalenge in the “arena” mode where I have passed hours playing until I had killed almost 3000 enemys and even though I only stoped because the work time at my job was over…LOL)
there are other great games but unfortunately I don’t have them yet so I play these ones…other aren’t compatible with my phone…lol!
what do you think of this list?
A very nice looking list, inpherno. We’d love to show reviews of the games you mentioned, but unfortunately we so far didn’t get our hands on any of them.
However, we do welcome any user submitted reviews, provided they are original(not copy-pasted from a 3rd party site), written in an acceptable English and, preferably, accompanied by a couple of screenshots.
So if you want to share your opinions about mobile games with the world, we’re welcoming your material. What do you say?
I must admit that I am addicted to playing the game called, Block Breaker. I love both the graphics and concept. That being said, I do have one flaw against the game.
I just can not beat the game. However, my cousin is always winning. I am so jealous, LOL.
Check this out, I bought a latest game “WarriorWorld” from clickgamer.com , the gameplay, enviroment and enemy AI are awesome. Its very demanding and i feel little tough, but iam determined to finish it.
